Kiwi travellers love a package holiday deal, but they’re still hard to come by for some destinations.
Package deals offer travellers flights and accommodation in an upfront cost paid for before they arrive, taking the guesswork out of the cost of a holiday. Agents can also often find more affordable airfares or hotel deals.
But if you’re looking for escapes to the likes of South America, Africa or even parts of Asia, you might find yourself disappointed.
Travel agents say it is hard to find certain flights and accommodation options to package into deals when there are still considerable supply barriers and reduced capacity, as well as skyrocketing airfares.

“It’s definitely a challenge for us to create package holidays to everywhere around the world,” said Heidi Walker, GM of leisure brands for Flight Centre. “Before (the pandemic), we did have airlines flying into New Zealand, we had more options and obviously there was a lot more capacity. So at the moment, flights specifically are the biggest challenge for us, with supply and demand just aren’t matching.”
